First ERFAN Regional Meeting in Northern Africa

Veterinary institutions from Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia met to strengthen scientific collaborations. The partners share the structure of ERFAN, as outlined during the first meeting.

The workshop, addressed to the countries of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) region, was held on 3 and 4 May at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Tunis.

Representatives of relevant national authorities, laboratories and universities attended the workshop from five AMU countries. ERFAN network facilitated the creation of networks of veterinary laboratories and schools in order to improve research and technology transfer between African countries. Strengthening collaboration between the countries of the SADC region and those of the Arab Maghreb Union was the crucial objective.

The workshop was useful to evaluate the first results of the ERFAN network, to plan new research activities, to identify future areas of collaboration and priorities for 2018-2021. Specifically, the two days provided useful indications on project hypotheses concerning brucellosis, food hygiene and vector-borne diseases.

The event is finished.
